Tag of 8 - with a twist

This is the little one writing. Wow - my very first tag on the blogosphere. I certainly have arrived on the scene, thanks Anirudh for tagging me.

8 Things I am passionate about:
1. Music of all kinds. My current favourites include Rangapura vihara and Vithoba Chala. Have to listen to it each time the computer is switched on.
2. Papad. Give me a papad and I can be coerced into most things.
3. My mother’s chanting beads.
4. My mother’s maama’s photo, which she has written about here. He just makes the cutest noises and plays with me constantly when he is visiting.
5. Pogo Puppy and Dillion Donkey, two of my farm animal characters. I don’t why mum and dad bought all those other ones, these are just the cutest.
6. The family singing nursery rhymes to me, dancing about and making a fool of themselves each time.
7. My food. I have to eat what the adults eat from their plates, just to make sure they don’t fool me with some tasteless baby food.
8. My soft cloth cubes. I take them all over the house.

8 Things I do that drives Mama crazy

This list was really hard for me to compile since I am such a well behaved child. I had to really rack my brains to come up with this list.
1. Keep doing ‘aa aa aa’ till I get what I want. Of course, many times she doesn’t give in so easily as say tatha. Tatha is a real softie.
2. Throw my toys instead of giving them in mummy’s hand, in spite of being told not to do so repeatedly.
3. Cry for a couple of seconds before she changes my nappy.
4. Refusing to brush my teeth.
5. Keep throwing anything that I can lay my hands on when I sit on my high-chair.
6. Eat paper. It’s so tasty, wonder why they don’t let me eat it. I think they have never tasted it, so they don’t know as yet what they are missing out on.
7. Touch mama’s spectacles, though I don’t do it very often these days. Why take panga faltu me with mama ?
8. Continue playing and being cranky when I am dead tired and cant keep my eyes open.

8 Things I say often:
1. Tatha
2. Mmmm, ammma
3. Aaaa aaa
4. Aaaa jum
5. AAAA (annoyed tone)

As you can see, I am a girl of few words.

8 Books I've read recently:
1. Moon book
2. Sun book
3. Maisy big, Maisy Small
4. Dora’s Christmas Party
5. Going on a bear hunt
6. Kitty the kitten
7. My first book of A,B,C
8. My first book of nursery rhymes

8 songs I can (and do!) listen to over and over:
1. Rangapura Vihara
2. Vithoba Chala
3. Any of the fast numbers they play on Music India. None of those old, slow numbers for me.
4. Any ad jingle, any theme music for say news, serials etc.
As you can see I am quite non-fussy as yet when it comes to my music.
8 Things that make me me:
1. Looking at a mug which has my picture on it and saying ‘HAAAA’ time, with an emphasis on the H.
2. Doing my own sweet little dance number.
3. Refusing to go to the bathroom to get my nappy changed. I have to cry each time for a couple of seconds.
4. Sit next to mummy, immersed with my beads and book while she chants.
5. Touch something which I know I am not supposed to, look at mummy or daddy and give a sweet, shy smile to see if I can get away with it.
6. When I refuse to eat my food from my bowl, even though it’s exactly the same thing as everyone if eating. I would rather eat from their plates, thank you very much.
7. When the first thing that I do is to strew toys all over the living room as soon as my father or tatha has finished vacuuming.
8. When I jump around the bed and play each evening with my parents and grandparents sitting around me in my grandparents bed after dinner. And how ever so often I go to the side where mummy is sitting to check if she is still there. Its fun only at that time of the night and only when everybody else is sitting around and making a fuss of me.

Ten tag...

Since I have not been tagged by anybody to do this tag, I am going to tag myself and do it anyway. I like the idea and the fact that it requires a lot of introspection. The tag is to put down 10 things I miss in my life right now and 10 things I want in a decade:
10 things I miss in my life right now
1. Having family close by
2. Paani puri, bhelpuri and all kinds of chaat
3. Geeli mitthi ki khushboo (England has a lot of rain, yet the soil doesn’t smell the same here at all)
4. Living close to a (warm) beach.
5. Having my own house to do up the way I want to, drill holes where I want to, have more space for my daughter to walk.
6. Having a good chaat place close to my house.
7. My days in Hyderabad, where I was training with a bunch of really cool, like-minded colleagues for 6 months. They were some of the most carefree days of my entire life and we had a total blast.
8. Just being able to walk into a CD shop and select the music that I desperately want to hear right now (Carnatic Classicial – granted there are websites where I can buy it from here in the UK, but its just not the same)
9. Bombay in the rains, specially the colony where I grew up in.
10. Life is good, obviously because I can’t think of anything else.

Things I want to achieve and get within the decade
1. Reach a mental state where PMS can no longer get to me.
2. Run a marathon.
3. Buy our own place (hopefully it will not take a decade !!)
4. Take up re-learning classical music
5. Learn a new language
6. Have another baby
7. To develop an unshakeable sense of conviction in myself, be more patient with myself and other people.
8. Para-jumping and white water rafting
9. Have enough money to not have to worry about it. Ever.
10. Travel abroad more and know the streets of central London as well as I know the streets of Bombay.

Five Posts Tag

Thanks Silvara and Tharini for tagging me.

The rules are - Post 5 links to 5 of your previously written posts. The posts have to relate to the 5 key words given (family, friend, yourself, your love, anything you like). Tag 5 other friends to do this meme. Try to tag at least 2 new acquaintances (if not, your current blog buddies will do) so that you get to know them each a little bit better."

If I am completely honest, this tag was quite painful for me to do, mainly because I cringe when I read what I have written in the past. Another thing which I realised while I was doing this tag was that I need to assign labels to my posts a lot better than I am as I had real trouble finding the relevant posts.

Family, where I wrote about my daughter uttering her first words and this one about my sister.

I have a tag about Friends in my draft folder, which I started after reading MM’s post about ‘best friends’, which was ages ago. I need to get my act together and finish that off sometime soon. I cant seem to find any post where I have written about my friends, so this will have to do.

There are enough posts on this blog about me and my thoughts. This post was written after a meeting some of Calculus’s colleagues and I came home with a feeling of being sso under-qualified and it stayed with me for weeks and weeks.

I realised that I have not written a lot about my love, Calculus mainly because he doesn’t like to be written about here. He has often complained about it, more so recently than in the past. This is one which I had written a while ago. My latest love, all of an year and a bit old features here and my old love features here.

I love music. Its one of my biggest regrets that I did not focus more on it while I was learning to sing back in India. Indian classical music, which I have written about here is very close to my heart.

Now to tag 5 people, 30in2005, Southways and Choxbox who are my old(ish) buddies now. For two new buddies, I tag the new mommy on the block Premalatha and Preethi.

Fridge Tag

Tagged by Planethalder to reveal the contents of my fridge. Phew, this took a lot of trips back and forth to my fridge since I don’t have a clue anymore as my mother is in-charge of my kitchen and shopping for the kitchen too. Sadly, not for long.

Apple juice (Coppella, no other brand tastes as good)
Peach and pear juice concentrate, tropical summer fruits juice concentrate (for my daughter)
Cucumbers, peppers, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, runner beans, organic mushrooms, carrots, beetroot, plantain, a lovely big aubergine, tomatoes, tomatoes-on-the-vine
Lots of Indian veggies (all of whose English names I don’t know) – okra, gawar, dudhi, tondli, methi
Garlic cloves
Ginger, lemons, green chillies
Coriander, curry leaves
Idli batter
Harissa from the street market in Cambridge
Unsalted butter, Welsh butter straight from a Welsh farm
Marks & Spencer green pesto sauce
Semi-skimmed milk, lots of yoghurt pots (natural)
Plum jam, again from the street market in Cambridge
Home-made green chilli pickle (I made it !!)
Organic free range eggs
Neem sticks (which my father uses to clean his teeth, in addition to toothpaste. Has been doing for years)
Teether (my daughter’s - apparently keeping it cold aids the teething process)
Left over food – onion sambar, potato sabzi, lemon rice

Judgement Tag

Tagged by the lovely Broom to write about what we judge, who we judge and why. Calculus always tells me that I have two sets of rules – one for myself and one for the rest of the world. After this tag, I think I may have to agree with him !

- I tend to judge people whose written and/or spoken English is not too good. I expect people to write/speak grammatically correct English, though I don’t do it myself many a times.
- I judge people by the car they drive. I have my own hierarchy of cars that I like and think are cool and those that are way too-uncool. I judge people who drive big cars and four wheel drives as being totally irresponsible and environmentally unfriendly. Yet I love big gas-guzzlers and would love to own one myself. And if you don’t drive, well I don’t even know what to say.
- I judge people on the educational qualifications they have. I have had to stop myself so many times from rejecting CVs outright of candidates who don’t have a master’s qualification or an engineering degree.
- I judge people by the clothes they wear and how well groomed they are.
- I judge people who don’t have an ipod. Come on, how can one NOT have even a single ipod. And no, I don’t get any commission nor do I have any shares in Apple.
- I judge people who don’t cook at home and tend to eat out a lot. I would love to eat out more often myself, just that because I am vegetarian my options are rather limited and so we tend not to.
- I judge people who shop at Primark (a cheap fashion store), though I do it sometimes in secret and don’t admit it to anyone.
- I judge people who 'put-on' accents. I find it really annoying.
- I judge people who are slow to learn stuff. I pick up stuff quite fast and mostly need to be told how to do things only once, so I am quick to judge people who learn slowly.

Gosh, I am going to stop now – I did not realise I was so judgemental myself till I put this all down.

Thanks to Broom, by the end of this tag, none of us are going to have any friends left!!

Pride Tag...

I have been reading the tag which has been going around about the 8 things which I am proud about. I am taking it up, because it took a lot of soul-searching (at least for me!) to come up with 8 things that I am proud of. So here goes (in no particular order)..

1. My Buddhist practice. Not only for the satisfaction, inner peace that it gives me but also to belong to a wonderful extended family of like-minded individuals. The SGI, of which I am a member, has given me so much that its hard to even try and quantify it. All I can say is that Buddhism has transformed my life.
2. Calculus. I have given him some extremely hard times, which I regret so so much now. The fact that he never complains about it, is still with me, by my side and supporting me whole-heartedly in everything is only a testament to his greatness.
3. My calm nature and composure. Calculus might disagree with me on this one, but I am calm and composed with everybody(except him!). I can count the number of times I have lost my temper and shouted at people though I tend to fume inwardly and become all quiet when I am angry. I was quite calm and composed even during my labour.
4. My daughter. She is such a cutie – quite a calm, happy baby. I should probably not be writing this here, you know not jinx it and all that !! She was not troublesome when she was inside me, did not give me a hard time while coming into this world and generally has a good temperament. Probably she is storing up all her energy to trouble me later !!
5. Proud to be my mother’s daughter. She has experienced immense hardship in her life and has come up against all odds, yet is so humble. I should do a post about her sometime.

Ufffffff, this tag thing is proving to be harder than I expected. Only two more to go !!

6. My driving. I learnt driving after I came to this country and have driven so much in the last few years. I love driving, am quite good at it and navigate myself pretty well (without a GPS!!). A lot of people used to refer to me as the ‘motorway queen’ because of the amount of motorway driving that I used to do.
7. My work. I have worked in a variety of professions now, including a call centre (hated every minute of it), a minority ethnic women’s charity, software consulting, project management and now into financial consulting. Without any previous experience in finance, it was a big deal for me to land up with my present job. As I was into consulting, I had to advise, suggest solutions about capital adequacy and the likes to credit risk managers in various banks, all the while aware that these people have been in the profession for decades, whereas I had joined yesterday ! It was really hard, appearing to be knowledgeable and I was under enormous pressure. I have really built up a good reputation now though and many clients ask for me by name to work on their projects.
8. Openness and willingness to try stuff. I am quite open and am willing to try anything once.

What a relief to be able to get this done finally and what a time-consuming exercise this has turned out to be....

6. My Buddhist practice has transformed my life.
